NotesIn 1895, Thomas S. Mills, 8, arrived in Quebec, Canada, with a group of 89 Boys en route to J. W. C. Fegan Boys Home, 295 George St., Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

In 1901, Thomas Mills, 13, was shown as a domestic / farm servant for Elizabeth Cook, at Albion, Cardwell, Ontario, Canada. His date of birth is shown as June 1, 1887, and his immigration year as 1890.

On September 22, 1914, Thomas Mills enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces (Service Number: 10672; Age: 28; Force: Army; Unit: Canadian Infantry (Central Ontario Regiment); Division: 4th Bn.) He declared that he was born in Oxted, Surrey, England; that his next of kin was Mr. A. Callow, Customs Inspector, 54 Scotland Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; that he was born June 1, 1887; that he was a motorman for the T.S.R.; and that he belonged to the Active Militia. He was described as 5 foot 8-1/2 inches in height; fair complexion; brown eyes; auburn hair. He had distinguishing marks consisting of 2 vaccination marks on his left arm; a small scar on his right foot; and a scar 1" long on his left hand, first finger.

Private Thomas Mills died April 12, 1916. He was buried at CHESTER FARM CEMETERY, Belgium (Grave Reference: I. H. 5.)

Just before he left for battle, Thomas executed a Will dated August 14, 1914. The Will was probated in Surrogate Court on September 22, 1916. The Will provided that his estate be distributed in two equal shares of $1200 each to the Sick Children's Hospital and the Fegan Boys Home of Toronto. (Thomas' estate was made up of $1100 life insurance, S O E Benefit Society and $1301 cash in the bank.)
